Fire Protection for the Marine Industry
Gielle Marine Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System
Designed in according to SOLAS Ch.II-2, Reg.5 and IMO
MSC/Circ. 847, 5.
The Gielle Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System is an engineered system available in three application configurations: total flooding (for unoccupied areas), local application or hand-hose line.
System includes detectors, a control unit, agent storage cylinders, piping and discharge nozzles. Gaseous carbon dioxide rapidly suppresses fire by a combination of cooling and oxygen displacement. Discharge duration and agent flow rates are customized for the individual application.
Seafaring vessels by their nature are at
greater risk of suffering the devastating
consequences of a fire-related catastrophe.
The absence of emergency services, limited
escape options and presence of flammable
liquids while at sea make proper fire
protection an absolute necessity.
Many shipboard fires begin in unoccupied
cargo holds or machinery spaces. Gielle
offers the marine carbon dioxide suppression system to contain such a fire before it can
spread to threaten the crew, passengers,
assets or the vessel itself.
How the System Works.
The Gielle Marine
Carbon Dioxide System utilizes highly
sophisticated electric and/or pneumatic
detection units which sense fire at its
inception—immediately alerting the control
system. The Control Panel activates the
Control Head which initiates the release of
Carbon Dioxide from the cylinders.
The
suppressant is delivered through a fixed piping network to multi-jet nozzles, which
discharge the Carbon Dioxide directly onto
the hazard—providing rapid, automatic fire
protection around the clock.
Marine Approvals.
The Gielle Marine
Carbon Dioxide System is approved for use
in marine applications such as machinery
spaces and flammable liquid storage areas
by major regulatory agencies.
System design, installation, service
Gielle provide the
services (design and
installation, retrofit, recharge, and maintenance)
necessary to keep your Gielle system functioning
properly and in compliance with Marine fire protection
regulations.
Why Choose a Gielle carbon dioxide suppression system?
Superior Suppression. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a colorless, odorless,
electrically-nonconductive gas whose density is approximately 50%
greater than air. A Gielle carbon dioxide system suppresses fire by
providing a blanket of heavy gas that reduces the oxygen content
of the atmosphere to a point where combustion becomes impossible.
Damage-Free. A naturally-occurring atmospheric element, Carbon
Dioxide dissipates into the air allowing an almost immediate return to
“business as usual” without the interruption of a costly clean-up and
the expense of damage to assets from suppressant residue. This
results
in fewer repair costs and reduced downtime.
Design Versatility. Because Carbon Dioxide is an ideal suppressant for a
wide variety of industrial marine applications, Gielle offers three system
configurations to efficiently protect different hazard types:
Total
Flooding—ideal for enclosed hazard areas, Local Application—used to
protect a specified hazard area in an open floor plan,
Local Hose
Line—cost effective protection for small amounts of a Class B hazard.
Typical Applications
The Gielle carbon dioxide system is ideal for environments where
flammable liquids and vapors present a potential hazard. These
fires spread quickly and become so intense, they often cannot be
approached. For this reason, it is essential to have sufficient fire
protection on site.
